6. Slash’s pythons
One cannot begin to explore the life and personality of the iconic Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, born Saul Hudson, without delving into his intriguing fascination with reptiles. It was as a child that his love for dinosaurs blossomed into a fascination for all things reptilian. This interest followed him when he moved from England to California and manifested in an extensive collection of reptiles that he cared for in his home. With up to one hundred snakes, lizards, and even crocodiles inhabiting his space until 2008, Slash’s house was less a typical celebrity home and more a personal wildlife sanctuary.
Many of Slash’s pets became as iconic as the man himself. There was Mickey, the black-and-white rat, Jack the chameleon, and even a mountain lion named Curtis. Yet, it was the slithering tenants who garnered the most attention. Among them, Clyde and Sam, the anacondas, Pandora and Jacob, the boa constrictors (the latter of which was generously donated to the Los Angeles Zoo), and Adrianna, the Burmese python. Their presence in Slash’s life highlighted not only his unique personal interests but also the depth of his commitment to the creatures he admired so deeply.
Beyond his personal collection, Slash’s passion for wildlife took a more public form. Over the years, he has become a staunch supporter of the Los Angeles Zoo, using his fame and influence to advocate for zoos worldwide. His commitment to the cause of wildlife and environmental protection has been remarkable, earning him the Tom Mankiewicz Leadership Award in 2011. From a childhood fascination to an adult passion, Slash’s love for reptiles and wildlife is a testament to his multi-faceted personality!
